West Hollywood 7 Neighborhoods
Within WEHO (2 square miles) are seven residential neighborhoods which are loosely bordered and defined by the neighborhood / resident associations.
Norma Triangle
Norma Triangle is a residential neighborhood in West Hollywood. It encompasses the area bound by Doheny Drive and Beverly Hills on the West, Sunset Blvd. and Holloway Drive on the North, and Santa Monica Blvd. on the South. The neighborhood is walkable and upscale with fantastic cafes and restaurants, shopping, nightclubs, parks, and bars in close proximity. The Norma Triangle also includes a small portion of the Sunset Strip and a large portion of what's called "Boys Town" a popular gay district on Santa Monica Blvd. The neighborhood is represented by The Norma Triangle Neighborhood Watch. A proactive group with the main goal of creating a tight knit community. The City of West Hollywood adopted the Norma Triangle Single Family Design Guidelines in 2017 with the purpose of managing change, protecting the distinctive characteristics of the neighborhood, and allowing flexibility in design creativity.
West Hollywood West
West Hollywood West is a neighborhood in West Hollywood. It encompasses the area bound by Doheny Drive and Beverly Hills on the west, Melrose Avenue on the north, La Cienega Blvd. on the east and Beverly Blvd on the south. The east-west streets of the area are Rangely, Dorrington, Ashcroft and Rosewood Avenues, and Bonner Drive. The north-south streets are Doheny Drive, Almont Drive, Robertson Blvd., Sherbourne Drive, San Vicente Blvd and Norwich, Huntley, Westbourne, Westmount and West Knoll Drives. The neighborhood is walkable, with cafes and restaurants, malls and movie theaters, parks, libraries, galleries, design shops and the Pacific Design Center in close proximity. West Hollywood West is represented by West Hollywood West Residents Association "WHWRA", one of the city's largest and most organized residents associations.
Tri-West
Tri-West is a relatively small neighborhood comprised of the area north of Melrose Avenue, south of Santa Monica Blvd between the Pacific Design Center and La Cienega, Tri-West has a mix of single-family homes and apartment buildings. Residents like being near shops, West Hollywood Park and the library. The area is also relatively flat, no steep hills to climb, making it even more convenient to do everything on foot.
West Hollywood North
West Hollywood North covers the area north of Santa Monica Blvd. and south of Sunset Blvd. between San Vicente and La Cienega. It has a mix of single-family homes, large apartment buildings and even a few high-rise condos. The area is home to both the original West Hollywood Library on the northwest corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Westbourne Drive. West Hollywood North is a microcosm of the entire city. It's the most walkable neighborhood within a very walkable city. Young professionals all coming together here. You have LGBTQ, straights, Russians, and other family units that call West Hollywood North there home. Despite being between Sunset and Santa Monica boulevards, reports say the area is very quiet. One can sit in a backyard and not hear a sound while two of the busiest, most famous streets in the world are each a block away.
West Hollywood Heights
The smallest of the neighborhoods, West Hollywood Heights is the area of the city north of Sunset Blvd. Made up almost entirely of apartment buildings, there are only a few single-family homes left according to Weho Heights Neighborhood Association. It's estimated that about 1000 people live in the area. Reports say that despite being apartment dwellers, residents tend to stay, so it's not as ransient as one might think. Some residents say that West Hollywood Heights is one of the friendliest neighborhoods in town. If you have a dog, you really get to know all your neighbors. Weho Heights also boasts fantastic views of the city and beyond, something that has attracted many to live in the hills. Life in Weho Heights also offers the convenience of being able to walk to Sunset Blvd. with its wide mix of restaurants, clubs and shops including Book Soup the city's only remaining bookstore. The Weho Heights Neighborhood Association represents 1000+ residents and was formed in June 2007 by merging the former Shoreham Heights NA.
Center City
Center City is the most populous of the West Hollywood neighborhoods, with a fifth of the city's 35,000+ people. It is comprised of the areas below Sunset Blvd. to the city's southern border and between La Cienega Blvd. and Fairfax Avenue. The area has some large historic apartment buildings (such as La Fontaine, El Mirador and Villa Italia) dating back to the 1920s and 1930s as well as smaller apartment buildings with some single-family homes and duplexes. Center City is filled with beautiful architecture. There's everything from Spanish Colonial to mid-century modern. It's like stepping back in time and gives you a feel for what most of Hollywood was like in the 30s and 40s. Residents praise the walkability of Center City. It's the heart of West Hollywood. The area has three parks, Kings Road Park, Laurel Park and Hart Park. (off-leash dog park) The quietness of the area is also praised. Despite busy Fountain Avenue and Santa Monica Blvd. dissecting Center City, residents say the side streets are quiet.
East Side
The Eastside of West Hollywood has gone through many changes over the last several decades. With an urban design and character that is unique and distinguished from surrounding neighborhoods, the Eastside is bounded by N. La Brea Avenue to the east, Fountain Avenue to the North, N. Hayworth Ave to the West, and the West Hollywood city boundary to the South (Willoughby Avenue West of Gardner and Romaine Street East of Gardner) The Eastside's mix of regional and small-scale local retail stores along Santa Monica Blvd. and adjacent small and medium-scale residential areas on the north and south make the area highly walkable. Historically, among other things, the Eastside has been known for its strongly rooted Russian-speaking community and its range of locally oriented community markets and shops. Mid City/Eastside is an up and coming area of West Hollywood. Young and hip amidst a rich culture of Russian heritage and remains a mix of old and new.
